After being cancelled last year due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Wānaka Trail Ride is back and better than ever for 2023. The event will take place on Saturday, April 1 and promises to be a thrilling day out for trail bike riders of all skill levels.

Wānaka Trail Ride Track Manager Phil Pendlebury says they expect a big turnout this year as riders look to make up for the many cancellations that occurred in 2022.

“With last year’s ride not able to go ahead, we know there are plenty of keen riders champing at the bit to get out and ride the trails,” Phil says. “This year, we’ll have five new loops covering advanced and expert terrain, so our expert riders will be happy.

“But we’ve also got novices and young riders covered, with the free pee wee track and beginner trails.

“It’s always a great day out, which is why riders travel from all over the lower South Island to attend.”

The Wānaka Trail Ride tracks cover high country terrain across three private stations near Tarras, a location that is inaccessible any other day of the year.

Those who purchase early bird tickets will save $10 on the regular adult ticket price. Tickets are $55 per adult and $20 for kids and can be purchased on our registration page here.

Now in its seventh year, the Wānaka Trail Ride is an entirely volunteer-run event and has raised more than $140,000 for Wānaka Primary School and Montessori Children’s House Wānaka. Additional funds also go to Tarras School and the RSA Appeal.
